Minnesota Contemporary Quilters membership is over 125 (and growing).  We meet at the Textile Center of Minnesota to share our love of quilting textiles.  This informal group was formed in 1993; the members have experience ranges from curious amateurs to seasoned professionals.  Members tend to make quilts of original design or to feature unusual fabrics in traditional patterns.  We experiment with new techniques, such as collage, fusing, raw-edge finishes, painting, and foiling.  We create innovative uses for notions and findings, and we embellish our quilts with beadwork, couching, buttons, tassels, and polymer clays.
The range of member interests is broad - from doll making to beading to wearable artistry and dyeing yardage.  This variety in membership encourages and inspires others to play with techniques beyond their safety zones.  Exposure to and knowledge of new techniques results in interesting and personally meaningful artwork.
We meet once a month, except December.  Our meetings are divided into two types of programs.  On the odd month we have a regular meeting featuring a speaker with a quilting, textile, or art background.  We also have show and tell, information on what the group is doing and opportunities for members to participate in challenges and exhibits.  On the even months, we have an “Unstructured” meeting.  This can include a member-led demo or a short class along with show and tell where the members show completed or ongoing work.  They gain advice and support of works in progress and share achievements.  All the meetings are very creative and will leave you very inspired!  Please click on  'calendar' to view meeting dates.
Membership to MCQ is $30.00 per year which includes the electronic newsletter, (additional $5 for mailing), published 6 times a year, and the monthly meetings. The easiest way to join is to come to a meeting and pay for membership then.
We meet on the 4th Monday of the Month, (except December) at 6:30 pm at the Textile Center of Minnesota, located at 3000 University Ave. SE, Minneapolis, (612) 436-0464.  This is on University Ave. between 35W and Hwy 280.
